password.
o If you do not have a user ID or My.NWTC account, please click on the “Create Account” button.
Complete the information required to get an account/student ID instantly.
Click on “Financial Aid & Other Funding,” then “Scholarships,” then “Scholarship Portal.”
Click on “Start Application” for the correct semester you are applying for.
o Previous applications you have applied for will show here. You need to complete a new application
every semester you apply.
Q. Do I need to fill out an application for each scholarship I think I’m qualified for?
No. The scholarship process with NWTC is that you fill out one application and the system will match you to
corresponding scholarships based on their criteria.
Q. Why am I having trouble accessing the application?
The scholarship portal works best using Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser, as opposed to Safari or
Internet Explorer. Make sure you only have one tab open in your web browser. Clearing out your history, cookies,
and cache files (student helpdesk can help with this) can be helpful. Avoid accessing the application through your
mobile device as its usually not compatible, plus you will want to spend some time on your application which is
easier to do on a computer.
Q. Why do you need such personal information such as financial status, earnings, and number of people living in
the household?
All applications remain confidential and are only read by the reviewing committee. We ask for this information to
provide as true and accurate picture of current financial need/status as many scholarships are financial need based.
The more information you can provide will only help the readers understand your need for a scholarship.
Q. Do I need to complete and submit a FAFSA application?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form completed by current and prospective students in
the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. While it is not currently required to
complete a FAFSA application it is strongly recommended and may become a requirement in the future. As
scholarships are free/donated monies from donors, many of the readers that review applications feel very strongly
that a student should explore all avenues of financial support.
Q. Who should I ask to write my letters of recommendation?
Suggestions include a teacher, employer, supervisor, co-worker, tutor, academic advisor, pastor/minister, mentor,
past coach, club leader, etc. Do not ask a friend, family member, or boyfriend/girlfriend. A letter of
recommendation is like a professional referencechoose someone who can articulate your strengths and praise

Frequently Asked Questions
your accomplishments objectively. You will want to ask your references ahead of time as the email that they
receive goes out as soon as you type it in the application. Let your references know that the email will come from
NWTCFoundation@ngwebsolutions.com and to check their spam or junk folder just in case.
Q. Can a reference submit their letter of recommendation via paper or email?
No. The system only accepts letters of recommendation through the online process. The online form provides a
consistent format for references to follow along with fill-in answers to personalize their recommendation.
Q. Do I need to wait for my letters of recommendation to be complete before I submit my application?
No. References have one week after the application deadline to complete their recommendation.
Q. How do I know if my references have completed their letter of recommendation?
While you cannot see the content of the recommendation, you can go back into the scholarship portal to check
their status by clicking on “Manage/ Edit Letters of recommendation.” From there you have two options:
Send Reminder: This will send an email to your reference reminding them to complete their
recommendation.
Withdraw: This removes the person from being your reference. You would also use this option if you
entered an incorrect name/email. You would then add a reference using the correct name/email.
Q. If I am awarded a scholarship, how do I receive the funds?
After Pell Recalculation Date of each semester (dates listed on www.nwtc.edu/scholarships), Student Finance will
credit the scholarship amount directly to your student account.
Q. Can the amount I receive in scholarships affect my eligibility for financial aid or my current financial aid
amount?
Yes. Student Finance and Financial Aid are both notified of all scholarship recipients and their scholarship(s) and
amounts. Scholarships are always applied to the account first regarding tuition, books, and program fees. You may
still receive financial aid; however, your amount may be affected based on scholarships. The Financial Aid office will
contact you if your financial aid is affected. For questions on how and why this may affect your financial aid, please
contact Financial Aid at (920) 498-5444.
Q. What can I use my scholarship for?
Scholarships are for tuition, books, and program fees. To use for books, you must apply your books to your student
account at the College. Contact Student Finance (920) 498-5444 or studentfinance@nwtc.edu with questions.
Q. Who selects the scholarship recipients?
The scholarship review committee is comprised of many different people from the NWTC community such as
faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, Foundation Board of Directors, scholarship donors, and community volunteers.
Information within applications is kept confidential.
Q. How do I increase my chances of getting a scholarship?
You can increase your chances of being awarded a scholarship by fully completing the application. This includes
answering each question to the best of your ability and sharing your storyexplain why you deserve a scholarship.
Check out the resources at www.nwtc.edu/scholarships to help you with writing your essays. Also, providing three
letters of recommendation is better than meeting the minimum requirement of one recommendation.
